Ethereum Roadmap 2024: Strengthening and Expanding the Network’s Capabilities

Updated Ethereum Roadmap for 2024

Vitalik Buterin recently shared the Ethereum roadmap for 2024, with the aim of strengthening and expanding the network’s capabilities. However, he notes that this roadmap is similar to the one for 2023 and contains “relatively few changes.”

This roadmap for 2024 focuses on six key elements.

Among the priorities is the Merge, which represents a significant change in Ethereum’s functionality. The Surge aims for impressive processing capacity, with the goal of 100,000 transactions per second, relying on Ethereum and its layer 2 solutions.

There is also the Scourge, which focuses on mitigating risks associated with Miner Extractable Value (MEV) and liquidity pooling. This step is crucial for maintaining the integrity and security of the network. The Verge, on the other hand, aims to facilitate block verification, an important technical aspect for network efficiency.

Simplification and Expansion

The Purge and Splurge represent two complementary aspects of the roadmap. The Purge aims to simplify the Ethereum protocol, making the network more accessible and less complex to attract more users and developers.

The Splurge encompasses all other aspects of Ethereum’s development and improvement. This includes innovations and enhancements that do not fit into the previous categories but are equally important for Ethereum’s overall development.

Vitalik Buterin did not provide a specific timeline for these changes but emphasized that their order reflects the network’s priorities. This roadmap demonstrates a continued commitment to innovation and growth in Ethereum, highlighting its role as a leader in the cryptocurrency space.
