Users of Binance in Venezuela Struggle to Access Platform Crypto Due to Government Website Blocking
Users of Binance in Venezuela are facing difficulties in accessing the crypto platform due to the recent blocking of several websites by the government.
This measure follows the announcement of website blockages, including the X social media platform, as part of a crackdown on online communications after the July 28 presidential elections.
Blocking of Internet Services
The situation for Binance users is part of a larger context where many online services, such as those provided by Amazon CloudFront, are also restricted. According to VE sin Filtro, a human rights defense organization, the national internet and telecommunications provider CANTV is blocking some Amazon cloud services, resulting in numerous disruptions.
Binance’s Response
In response to the difficulties faced by its users, Binance has addressed the situation through X, explaining that its pages are facing access restrictions like other sites in Venezuela. The company assured that it is closely monitoring the situation to quickly resolve it and reassured its users that their funds remain secure.
Political Context and Government Measures
These restrictive measures come after President Nicolas Maduro announced the blocking of the X platform for a period of 10 days. According to the government, this decision aims to counter “plans to sow violence, hatred, and attack Venezuela from abroad.”
The political situation in Venezuela has escalated after the National Electoral Council proclaimed Nicolas Maduro the winner of the July 28 presidential election with 51.2% of the votes, compared to 44.2% for his main rival, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia.
The figures have been denounced by the opposition as fraudulent, with the opposition claiming that its own estimates showed Gonzalez Urrutia winning with 67% of the votes after counting 83% of the ballots.
The blocking of access to the X platform is part of an increased repression context, with multiple reports of arrests and human rights violations. According to a United Nations statement, there is credible information regarding detentions, injuries, deaths, and acts of violence perpetrated by security forces.
