UK Judge Dismisses Craig Wright’s Claims in COPA Lawsuit

UK Judge Rejects Craig Wright’s Claims in COPA Lawsuit

In a landmark ruling for the crypto community, a UK judge has declared that Craig Wright, who claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious creator of Bitcoin, is neither the author of the Bitcoin whitepaper nor the inventor of the cryptocurrency.

I shall make some statements, which I am sure are helpful and necessary in the interests of justice to the parties. First, Mr. Wright is not the author of the bitcoin whitepaper. Second, Dr. Wright was not the person who adopted or operated under the pseudonym of Satoshi Nakamoto between 2008 and 2011. Third, Mr. Wright was not the person who created the Bitcoin system. And fourth, he did not author the original versions of the Bitcoin software. Any further directions I have given will be dealt with in my written judgment.

Judge James Mellor

This ruling comes from the lawsuit filed by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) against Craig Wright, aimed at protecting developers and other members of the community from Wright’s claims of intellectual property rights over Bitcoin technology.

A Long-Awaited Yet Soothing Judgment

After compelling closing arguments, Judge James Mellor stated that the evidence presented against Wright was “overwhelming”. The detailed judgment, yet to be written, will include clear statements refuting Wright’s claims of being the author of the Bitcoin whitepaper or having acted under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto between 2008 and 2011.

This decision marks a significant victory for COPA and its supporters, which include industry figures such as Twitter founder Jack Dorsey and Coinbase.

Repercussions and Future Implications

Judge James Mellor put a stop to two other related cases, where Craig Wright accused entities like Coinbase and Jack Dorsey’s company, Block, of infringing his alleged rights over the Bitcoin blockchain. The rejection of Wright’s claims by Judge Mellor could influence the outcome of these cases.

Furthermore, this decision is hailed as a victory for developers, the open-source community, and the truth, putting an end to years of intimidation attempts based on Craig Wright’s false identity claims, using his wealth to attack numerous members of the community who contradict him.
