Trivago Partners with Travala to Integrate Cryptocurrency Payments for Hotels

Trivago partners with Travala to integrate cryptocurrency payments for 2.2 million hotels, allowing users to pay with BTC, ETH, and other digital assets.

Trivago, one of the leading hotel search engines, has partnered with Travala, a platform specializing in cryptocurrency payments for bookings. With this agreement, Travala’s inventory, which includes 2.2 million properties, is now integrated into Trivago’s search results. Users selecting a hotel from Travala will be redirected to its site to finalize their reservation and have the option to pay with bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), and a multitude of other cryptocurrencies.

An increasing adoption of cryptocurrency payments in tourism

The integration of Travala on Trivago marks a new milestone in the acceptance of digital asset payments in the travel sector. This initiative is part of a broader trend, as Travala has already formed similar partnerships with Skyscanner in September 2023 and Kayak in November 2023. Now, not only flights but also hotel bookings are accessible to crypto payment enthusiasts.

Travala’s model is based on offering an alternative to traditional payments while integrating a cryptocurrency-based loyalty program. Users can earn rewards in bitcoin or AVA, Travala’s native token. However, despite peaking at over $3 in December 2024, AVA has fallen by more than 50% since the beginning of the year.

A key player coveted by the market

Supported by Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange platform, Travala has attracted interest from several potential buyers. After receiving a purchase offer in late 2024, the company is currently in discussions with potential acquirers. Among them, Booking.com, the owner of Kayak, had considered an acquisition before backing out, according to sources close to the matter.

Travala reported a monthly gross revenue of over $10.3 million in January 2025, with a 60% year-on-year growth.

Another step towards the democratization of cryptocurrency payments

The integration of Travala on Trivago exemplifies the travel industry’s shift towards increased adoption of cryptocurrencies. As these solutions proliferate, they facilitate the acceptance of digital assets as a daily payment method. For Trivago, this partnership expands its offerings and allows it to attract a more tech-savvy clientele, while Travala continues its ambition to become the go-to platform for cryptocurrency travel bookings.
