Martin Grant Joins Binance.US to Strengthen Compliance and Regulatory Management
Binance.US, the American cryptocurrency exchange platform, has announced the appointment of Martin Grant, former Head of Compliance and Ethics at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (NY FED), to its board of directors.
This appointment, effective from April 16, is part of an effort to enhance regulatory, legal, and compliance expertise within the organization.
Martin Grant’s Experience at Binance
Martin Grant, who joined the NY FED in 1990 and served until 2022, brings valuable expertise accumulated over three decades in the regulated financial sector to Binance.US. According to Norman Reed, interim CEO of Binance.US, Grant’s arrival will enable the exchange to navigate the current regulatory environment in the United States more effectively.
Grant also holds the position of Global Head of Regulatory Affairs and Integrity at JST Digital, providing him with a solid foundation in the US crypto ecosystem.
Strategic Changes and Legal Challenges for Binance
This appointment comes after Changpeng Zhao, former CEO of Binance, stepped down as Chairman of the Binance.US board in November 2023, following an agreement with US authorities. CZ, who has also resigned as CEO of Binance and pleaded guilty to a criminal charge, is set to be sentenced on April 30.
Meanwhile, Binance, Binance.US, and CZ are facing a lawsuit filed by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in June 2023.
The SEC alleges that Binance entities offered unregistered securities, as the agency intensifies its actions against crypto firms operating in the country, including Coinbase and Ripple.
