Ledger unveils Recovery Key, a physical card with secure NFC that allows for the restoration of a crypto wallet in seconds with a simple touch and a PIN code, without the need for cloud storage or third parties.
Une carte physique Ledger pour restaurer son wallet en 2 gestes
Forget about the 24 scribbled words on a piece of paper – Ledger has just revealed Recovery Key, a physical card that enables the quick restoration of a crypto wallet in a matter of seconds. Simply touch the card to the wallet (Ledger Flex or Ledger Stax) and enter a personal PIN code. That’s it. No cloud, no intermediary, no compromises.
The device operates using the same security chip as Ledger wallets, with encrypted NFC connectivity. The goal is to provide a simple yet ultra-secure backup solution to prevent loss of access without sacrificing sovereignty.
Crypto grand public rime avec sécurité simplifiée
This news is significant – by 2025, the crypto market capitalization has increased by nearly $1 trillion in just one year. More and more users are entering the ecosystem, often without a full grasp of digital security intricacies.
Ledger understands this need for more intuitive solutions. Recovery Key specifically targets these new entrants who still leave their assets on exchanges or in hot wallets due to lack of better options. With this card, self-custody finally becomes accessible to a wider audience without compromising security standards.
Pas de carte imposée : tout est optionnel
Recovery Key does not replace anything; it complements existing methods. You can choose to use only your 24 words, activate Ledger Recover, or combine all three options. Each physical key is protected by its unique PIN and can only be created by confirming directly on your Ledger device.
In other words, there is no imposed solution but maximum freedom for each user profile.
Too many people sacrifice security for convenience. We aim to provide both.
Ian Rogers, CXO at Ledger
Une transparence (enfin) assumée
Ledger hasn’t forgotten the past controversies surrounding its data management. This time, the French company is embracing transparency: open source code, published whitepaper, and security tests conducted internally by Donjon, its team of ethical hackers, as well as by external auditors.
We aim to earn the public’s trust. Recovery Key has been tested, audited, and validated by top experts.
Charles Guillemet, CTO of Ledger
Un nouveau standard pour les années à venir ?
Following the launch of Ledger Recover in 2023 and the commercial success of its new devices (over 7.5 million wallets sold), Ledger is affirming its strategy to reinvent crypto security while maintaining autonomy.
Recovery Key should be available for purchase in the coming weeks. Until then, the debate continues: can one truly secure their assets without complexity? Ledger believes it is possible.
