Biden’s use of the laser eyes image was intended to play with the meme ‘Dark Brandon,’ referring to a conspiracy theory that the victory of Travis Kelce’s team, boyfriend of popstar Taylor Swift, was orchestrated to influence future presidential support.
The President’s social media team had previously embraced the Dark Brandon meme to make the aging Biden appear cool and in tune with current affairs. In this post, Biden jokes that he actually conspired for the team’s victory. The annotation ‘Dark Brandon’ is also visible in the post’s alt text.
