Bitcoin: Ukraine’s official Twitter account launches a call for crypto-currency donations and a DAO

After cash donations, it is the donations in Bitcoin and Ethereum that are officially entering the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

Donations to the Ukrainian state have been steadily increasing since this Thursday, February 24, 2022. They were initially given in the form of traditional currency, but a call for crypto donations has been launched by the Ukrainian state. A DAO has also emerged.

The Bitcoin and Ethereum donation appeal

This Saturday, February 26, the official Twitter account of Ukraine made direct calls for donations in Bitcoin, Ethereum or USDT. At the time of writing, the official Twitter account (@Ukraine) shared several posts in which the call for donations was formal, but only the one featuring Ethereum and Bitcoin addresses remained online.

At the moment, it is quite difficult to know whether the messages were deliberately deleted and reposted or whether the inclusion of crypto-currency addresses triggered a check operated by Twitter services.

To leave no room for doubt, the addresses were also shared by the verified Twitter account of Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, as well as in his Telegram channel, also verified. With this appeal, institutions, companies and individuals are invited to participate in the Ukrainian effort.

This call did not go unnoticed. There were many reactions after the tweets of these different protagonists. Some accused the Russian state, or at least some of its representatives, of trying to prevent donations in Bitcoin or Ethereum to Ukraine in any way.

Vitalik Buterin also took a stand during this somewhat eventful afternoon, claiming that the Bitcoin and Ethereum addresses were correct and indeed under the control of the Ukrainian government.

Ukraine and DAO

The calls are multiplying since, in addition to the calls for donations, a DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) was launched this Saturday, February 26, 2022. The initiative is not new and seems to be more and more common. Last week, a DAO set up in favor of political prisoner Julien Assange raised over $53 million.

Regarding Ukraine, it is still too early to know how big this one will be, but some big accounts, like Vitalik Buterin, have already relayed the call.

The site in question (https://ukrainedao.love) claims that 100% of the funds raised will go to Ukrainians.

For the moment, this DAO is set up for a duration of three days and has a reserve price of 1,000 ethereum ($2,778,646). It is specified that everyone can participate, there is no minimum contribution. In a little less than an hour, 130,000 dollars have been collected. Donations can be made via Party Bid.
