Industry Reactions and Network Restoration
Aptos Network, a layer 1 blockchain, experienced a significant disruption to its operations due to a five-hour outage, compromising the smooth flow of transactions on its platform. The timing of this disruption was particularly curious as it occurred during the week marking the network’s launch in 2022. Aptos Network’s monitoring tool, AptoScan, indicated that transactions based on the Move blockchain abruptly ceased at precisely 01:11 on October 19, freezing at block 104621314.

This technical glitch did not go unnoticed by Aptos, who cleverly acknowledged the setback on X (formerly known as Twitter) with a statement: “Your energy for Aptos One was so electric, you turned off the lights!” They then informed their community about the “affected” transactions and ongoing efforts to resolve the situation. In the wake of this unexpected outage, leading cryptocurrency exchanges Upbit and OKX promptly notified their customers of imminent maintenance regarding the Aptos Network. As a precautionary measure, they temporarily suspended all Aptos-related deposits and withdrawals.
In stark contrast, Aptos Labs had just celebrated the first anniversary of the network prior to the outage, with a message reminiscing the explosive entry of the Aptos mainnet one year ago.
