Affair of Sam Bankman-Fried: Upgrades to Defense Infrastructure Amidst Serious Charges
Amidst a highly publicized criminal case, former crypto tycoon Sam Bankman-Fried is facing serious accusations, resulting in his imprisonment at the Manhattan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York. In light of the defense team’s claims regarding the inadequacies of the infrastructure available to SBF for his defense, significant upgrades have been made to the technological infrastructure at his disposal.
According to recent developments highlighted by the Department of Justice (DOJ), SBF now has more favorable conditions for working on his defense strategies. This includes extended access to an offline laptop for a substantial duration on weekdays and weekends, along with the availability of hard drives loaded with essential defense materials at all times.
“We respectfully reiterate our request to the Court to grant Mr. Bankman-Fried temporary release.”

The Defense’s Struggle for Fair Trial Preparation
Since his incarceration in mid-August, SBF has been engaged in an ongoing struggle, through his defense attorney Mark Cohen, to ensure a fair and robust platform for building his defense. The initially reported issues regarding poor internet connectivity and battery life have now been significantly addressed. Prosecutors have facilitated the inclusion of a new computer battery promising approximately eight hours of battery life, complementing internet speeds that are deemed sufficient for the majority of online activities.
Judge Lewis Kaplan, who is presiding over the case, has played a crucial role in orchestrating these improvements. He has urged both parties to collaborate and provide a detailed report outlining the rectifications in the technological setup. This step can be seen as a substantial endeavor to safeguard SBF’s Sixth Amendment right to actively participate in his defense preparations, a right that appeared compromised according to previous claims made by his defense team. It was also a crucial point of attack for his defense to secure the release of the FTX founder. The new conditions presented by the prosecutors seem to allow for keeping SBF incarcerated until his trial.
