Uniswap Foundation Aims for Uniswap v4 Launch After Ethereum’s Dencun Update
The Uniswap Foundation, supporting the decentralized finance protocol of the same name, has announced the launch date for version 4 of the protocol following the upcoming Dencun update on Ethereum. On X, the foundation shared a detailed roadmap outlining its plan for this new deployment. Currently, the project is in the ‘Code Freeze’ phase, during which the team is finalizing the core code, conducting tests, optimizing gas fees, improving security, and completing peripheral tasks.
Uniswap Foundation relies on audit firms and a community audit contest to review the code of Uniswap v4. The team aims to make Uniswap v4 the ‘most rigorously audited code ever deployed on Ethereum’. In parallel, the decentralized exchange will be deployed on the testnet as the team makes final adjustments.
Integration into Ethereum’s Mainnet and the Dencun Update
The third phase will see the introduction of Uniswap v4 on Ethereum’s mainnet in the third quarter of 2024, although this date is tentative and subject to change depending on the progress of the Dencun update on Ethereum.
The Dencun update for Ethereum, which introduces several Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) such as EIP-4844 enabling proto-danksharding to reduce layer 2 transaction fees, was activated on the Goerli testnet on January 17. After successful deployment on multiple testnets, Tim Beiko, an Ethereum developer, announced that the update would reach the mainnet on March 13, 2024, following a decision made by Ethereum developers in a meeting on February 8.
