The TON blockchain has experienced two outages in 48 hours, caused by an overload linked to the massive creation of the DOGS token, raising concerns about the network’s robustness.
Despite these interruptions, the price of Toncoin has only slightly decreased, with a 1% decrease in four hours and a 4% decrease in 24 hours, showing relative resilience in the face of these issues.
Telegram, although legally separate from TON, is also affected by the arrest of its founder Pavel Durov in France, which has amplified concerns about the project.
The TON blockchain, closely associated with the messaging application Telegram, has experienced another service outage, marking the second outage in 48 hours. This repeated malfunction raises questions about the network’s robustness, particularly due to the increasing popularity of the DOGS token, which is at the heart of these interruptions.
The first outage occurred on Tuesday, disrupting the network for several hours before it was restarted. Wednesday evening, the network stopped functioning again for approximately four hours. In both cases, the cause identified by TON developers is related to an overload caused by the massive creation of the DOGS token.
This token, initially launched to increase the visibility of the TON network and support the initiative in favor of Pavel Durov, the recently arrested founder of Telegram in France, seems to have had undesirable effects on the stability of the blockchain.
According to the message posted by the TON team on Telegram and X (formerly Twitter), block production issues began at 9:19 PM, resulting in a halt in block recording on the blockchain, as confirmed by the Tonscan block explorer. Developers immediately called on mainnet validators to update their nodes and restart the network.
Despite these repeated interruptions, the price of Toncoin, the native token of the TON blockchain, has shown no major fluctuations. After the second outage, Toncoin decreased slightly by 1% over a four-hour period and by 4% over 24 hours, which are relatively moderate decreases compared to the impact that similar service interruptions could have on other blockchains.
Alongside these technical challenges, Telegram, although legally separate from TON, remains closely associated with the project. Telegram’s founder and CEO, Pavel Durov, was recently arrested in France on various charges, including alleged encouragement of illicit transactions and exploitation of children on his platform, as well as his refusal to cooperate with authorities. These events have already had an impact on the price of Toncoin even before the outages, amplifying concerns about the project’s future.
The TON development team is currently working to understand and resolve the underlying problems caused by the DOGS token. As the project continues to grow, it will be crucial for TON to strengthen its infrastructure and implement robust mechanisms to handle high loads to avoid similar interruptions in the future.
