Silencing of Pump.fun and Memecoin Accounts: Uncovering a Censorship Controversy

Pump.fun and several other accounts related to memecoins have been suspended without warning by X.

This suspension comes on the eve of the launch of the Pump.fun token, with a potential valuation exceeding one billion dollars, raising suspicions of censorship or regulatory pressure.

X may have acted due to non-compliance with its rules or under pressure from regulators, as memecoins are increasingly criticized for their manipulative practices.

Les comptes X de Pump.fun et autres projets memecoin suspendus

A thunderclap on Solana. On June 16, without any notice, X (formerly Twitter) suspended the official account of Pump.fun, one of the most popular memecoin launch platforms at the moment. Other collateral victims: the account of its co-founder Alon Cohen, as well as those of GMGN, Bloom Trading, BullX, and ElizaOS.

No explanation. No warning. Nothing.

Un écosystème à un milliard… réduit au silence

This brutal blackout comes as Pump.fun is about to launch its own token, with a valuation that could flirt with one billion dollars. The platform, built on Solana, has exploded the memecoin phenomenon by making their creation a few clicks away.

Over 10,000 coins launched daily. A meteoric growth, a viral craze… and now, a sudden pressure.

Despite the suspension on X, the Pump.fun website remains active. The shitcoin factory keeps churning, as if nothing happened.

Une censure ? Ou un avertissement déguisé ?

The lack of official justification quickly led to all sorts of hypotheses. For some, X simply enforced its internal rules against API abuse or misleading links. For others, it could be the start of a regulatory crackdown, especially from the U.S. SEC.

A plausible scenario, given the increasing tensions around “pump-and-dump” projects, initially labeled as highly speculative, and now considered (rightly so?) highly manipulative.

Pump.fun is no stranger to controversy. Last November, the platform was forced to disable its livestream module, following content deemed dangerous or explicit, broadcasted by some users.

The scope of this decision goes far beyond Pump.fun. It is the entire memecoin culture on Solana that is targeted. X, the main viral amplification lever of these projects, has just reminded everyone that the party can end overnight.

And while the community cries censorship, regulators are watching.

The message is clear: with the imminent massive tokenization of Pump.fun, the Wild West of memecoins may have found its first sheriffs.
