MetaMask Activates Default Security Alerts for Enhanced Protection
In an innovative effort to improve the security of cryptocurrency users, MetaMask has integrated Blockaid-powered security alerts by default on multiple chains. This feature, now available on Ethereum as well as networks like Linea, BNB Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, and Avalanche, represents a significant advancement in the fight against malicious transactions and hacks.
MetaMask remains the most widely used crypto wallet application, with monthly active users increasing by over 50% from September 2023 to January 2024, reaching over 30 million.
In its latest update, the MetaMask wallet has enabled the default integration of security alerts provided by the security company Blockaid, both for its extension and its mobile application, covering a wide range of blockchains. With this new feature, MetaMask aims to ensure that users of its wallet automatically receive notifications regarding potentially malicious transactions.
Parallel Evolution to Existing Security Products
This initiative follows in the footsteps of other security and transaction simulation products already available in wallets such as Rabby or browser extensions like Wallet Guard, Scam Sniffer, and Aegis by PeckShield. Through this integration, MetaMask hopes to prevent the theft of assets worth hundreds of millions of dollars in 2024.
Indeed, security in the crypto ecosystem remains a major challenge for its broader adoption. In 2023, cryptocurrency users suffered losses of $1.7 billion due to thefts, hacks, or phishing attacks.
Blockaid, founded in 2022, offers a range of tools that simulate transactions before their execution, thereby protecting integrated wallets and dApps like MetaMask, OpenSea, Zerion, and Rainbow from phishing incidents and hacks.
