The Linea token (LINEA) is going through turbulent times: its price has fallen to $0.024 this morning, marking a drop of over 20% in 24 hours after its launch. However, Joseph Lubin, founder of Consensys and a key figure behind Linea, wants to restore hope to his community.
Rewards for the Most Patient on Linea
In a post published on Thursday on X, Lubin hinted that LINEA holders could potentially benefit from future distributions. These rewards may come not only from Consensys but also from other ecosystem partner projects. “If, at some point, we see that you have kept your LINEA for some time, another token may well appear in your wallet,” he wrote, also mentioning a forthcoming collaboration between MetaMask and Linea.
A clear message: Linea aims to transform the simple act of ‘holding’ into a rewarded act of loyalty.
The Challenge of Token Utility
These announcements come as many community members question the true utility of the token. Some demand concrete features like staking or lending to give real value to their holdings. One user even compared Linea to a meme coin, criticizing a strategy that would amount to distributing more tokens without direct use. Others, more pragmatic, suggest the implementation of buyback programs to support demand and encourage investors to hold their tokens longer.
A Contrasting Launch
The timing of this controversy is far from trivial. The token was just launched on Wednesday. In this distribution, 85% of the supply is intended for the ecosystem, while 15% has been allocated to Consensys’ treasury. Despite an ambitious plan, the market reacted with volatility… and sales. After reaching a peak at $0.046, LINEA quickly corrected to return to its current levels, erasing the slight post-airdrop euphoria.
Trust Against Volatility
Linea’s future will now depend on its ability to prove that its token is not limited to an opportunistic airdrop. Lubin’s promises to integrate new forms of rewards, or even pave the way for synergies with MetaMask, are clearly aimed at strengthening holder engagement. But the challenge is twofold: rebuild investor confidence while building real utility, essential to establish itself in a market where every token must prove its legitimacy.
