A major breakthrough for European artificial intelligence
Mistral AI, a French startup specializing in artificial intelligence, has recently announced the closure of a 385 million euro financing round.
This significant milestone will enable the company to further develop its technology and its open-source software, thereby strengthening its position in the field of general AI.
A valuation now estimated at 2 billion dollars
This funding round was led by Andreessen Horowitz and Lightspeed Ventures, two venture capital funds valued at several billion dollars.
After a previous funding round of 113 million dollars in June, Mistral AI’s valuation is now estimated at around 2 billion dollars.
The company, founded by former leaders of Google DeepMind and Meta (the parent company of Facebook and Instagram), aims to make its products available to the general public starting early 2024.
Arthur Mensch, CEO of Mistral AI, emphasizes the company’s goal of becoming a “European champion with a global vocation” in generative AI, based on an open, responsible, and decentralized approach to technology.
Other notable investors include Salesforce, Bpifrance, and Eric Schmidt.
