Ethereum’s Fusaka Upgrade: Reinforcing the Blockchain

Ethereum is taking it up a notch. The developers at Ethereum Foundation have confirmed that the next major network upgrade, named Fusaka, will be deployed on the mainnet on December 3. The announcement was made during this Thursday’s All Core Devs call, following the successful test on the Hoodi network.

Fusaka: a highly anticipated update to strengthen Ethereum

Fusaka is not just a simple upgrade. This backward compatible hard fork includes a dozen Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIP) aimed at making the blockchain more sustainable, faster, and safer. After successful deployments on Holesky and Sepolia earlier this month, the transition to the mainnet marks the final step before the official launch.

It’s worth noting that Ethereum has not seen such a transformative evolution since Pectra back in February. At that time, certain features were postponed for stability reasons. Among them: Peer Data Availability Sampling (PeerDAS), a key technique that simplifies how validators access data. It will finally be integrated with Fusaka, promising enhanced network efficiency and much smoother data access.

More powerful blocks and a more scalable network

Another major change: raising the gas limit of blocks, which will increase from 30 million to 150 million units. A dramatic evolution that should boost the network’s capacity and improve user experience on Layer 2, increasingly vital in the Ethereum ecosystem. In parallel, Fusaka will double the capacity of blobs, the data packets introduced with Dencun to reduce transaction costs on second-layer solutions.

The goal is clear: make Ethereum more competitive against Solana and new market entrants, while solidifying its position as a leader in decentralized infrastructure.

Security tested before the big day

Aware of the stakes, the Ethereum Foundation launched a four-week public audit in September, with a maximum reward of $2 million for researchers able to identify critical flaws before deployment. An initiative that highlights the rigor and transparency of the network’s validation process.

The deployment of Fusaka is more than just an update: it’s a strategic step in preparing for “Ethereum 2030”, where the blockchain aims to become the backbone of a sustainable, fast, and accessible web3 ecosystem for everyone.
