Do Kwon Appeals the Decision of the Montenegro Court
Do Kwon, the co-founder of Terraform Labs, has recently appealed a new decision by the Montenegro High Court. This decision supported the extradition requests made by the United States and South Korea.
“We have appealed again and are now awaiting a new decision from the Court of Appeals,” said Do Kwon’s lawyer.
Kwon’s recent appeal challenges the decision of the High Court, which he deems a blatant violation of the law, the European Convention on Extradition, and the bilateral extradition treaty with America.
According to his lawyer, Goran Rodic, it appears that local courts are under political pressure regarding Kwon’s extradition. In November, Kwon managed to overturn a previous decision by the High Court, but on December 29, the court once again deemed the extradition requests valid.
A Multi-Billion Dollar Case
In May 2022, the company Terraform Labs, behind the cryptocurrency projects LUNA and UST and valued at several billion dollars, simply collapsed, causing a ripple effect that led to the downfall of many crypto companies. As a result, Do Kwon, the co-founder of Terraform Labs, is facing fraud charges in his home country of South Korea, as well as in the United States.
Arrested in Montenegro last year for possession of forged official documents, he was sentenced to four months in prison.
While serving his sentence, Montenegro not only needs to approve his extradition, but also decide on his destination.
