Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino warns of a potential hack of an email list management service provider used by crypto companies.
Important cyber security reminders from Cyvers
Recently, Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, raised concerns within the crypto community about a potential wave of cryptocurrency airdrop-related scam emails.
In a message posted on X, he revealed that he had received two independent confirmations that an email list management service provider frequently used by crypto companies had been compromised.
Tips to Secure Your Crypto Transactions
In response to this threat, users are urged to exercise great caution. Hakan Unal, senior blockchain scientist at on-chain security firm Cyvers, has shared some recommendations: verify the authenticity of received emails and enable multifactor authentication (2FA) on all crypto platforms.
These measures are crucial to protect against phishing attacks that may result from this security breach.
CoinGecko Confirms the Breach
Shortly after Ardoino’s initial warning, Bobby Ong, co-founder and COO of CoinGecko, confirmed that their company may also be affected.
Ong revealed that CoinGecko is actively working with their provider to assess the extent of the breach. He also cautioned against clicking any links associated with the fake CoinGecko token or any emails promising the launch of new tokens.
