A Disturbing Video Shows Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s Head of Criminal Compliance, Struggling with Health Issues in Nigerian Prison
A new dark chapter unfolds in the Tigran Gambaryan case, the head of criminal compliance at Binance, with the release of a disturbing video.
The widely circulated video shows Gambaryan struggling to walk, visibly weakened and without access to proper medical assistance. This revelation has renewed calls for his release as his health continues to deteriorate within a Nigerian prison.
Immediate Reaction from Binance CEO
Following the video’s release, Richard Teng, the CEO of Binance, expressed outrage at the conditions under which Gambaryan is being held. In a message posted on the X social network (formerly Twitter) on September 3, Teng condemned what he called “inhumane treatment” and demanded Gambaryan’s immediate release for necessary medical care and to be reunited with his family. This message quickly gained attention, further pressuring the Nigerian authorities.
A Crucial Hearing scheduled for September 4
The Gambaryan case, which has been ongoing for over six months, has taken a new turn with the trial date being moved up to September 2. During this hearing, Gambaryan’s lawyers filed a new request for bail, citing the deterioration of his health. However, this request faced strong opposition from representatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of Nigeria, who insisted that Gambaryan was not in poor health. Despite this, medical documents submitted by the government’s own lawyers indicate that Gambaryan requires urgent surgical intervention.
The September 4th hearing will be decisive, as the judge will rule on the bail request. The outcome of this hearing is even more critical as Gambaryan’s health, according to his family, continues to worsen due to the prolonged medical neglect he has endured.
Alarming Detention Conditions
Gambaryan’s family has expressed deep concern about the situation, highlighting that the executive’s health is deteriorating day by day. In a statement shared with the media, they indicated that Gambaryan is suffering from an untreated disc herniation and a spinal injury, which now prevent him from walking without extreme pain. To make matters worse, prison authorities have allegedly refused to provide him with a wheelchair, leaving him to navigate with difficulty using only one crutch, as shown in the video.
