The crisis surrounding the Libra token is taking a new explosive turn. As the case shakes the country, the Argentine justice has ordered the lifting of the banking secrecy of President Javier Milei as well as that of his sister, Karina Milei.
The goal: examine their presumed financial ties with the creators of the memecoin $LIBRA, whose collapse ruined thousands of savers.

It is federal judge María Servini who has asked the Central Bank of Argentina to open the bank accounts of the president and his sister. According to Pagina12, Karina Milei would have been in contact with some project co-founders before the token was launched. Since the scandal broke out, local media have dubbed it “Libra Gate” or “Crypto Gate“, a scandal mixing political influence, crypto speculation, and fraud suspicions.
The Libra token, touted as a “revolutionary asset“, crashed by 90% within hours after being publicly promoted by Milei. This swift crash triggered a wave of anger among investors, many of whom lost their entire investment. Tens of millions of dollars were liquidated by ‘the team’ while Hayden Davies retained the majority of the funds. Calls for impeachment and fraud charges are now directly targeting the head of state.

New damning element: neither Javier Milei nor his lawyer responded to a summons for a mediation hearing in a civil action. The initiative comes from a lawyer representing 25 Argentine and foreign victims of the Libra debacle. An absence that fuels criticism, while the presidency remains silent on the substance of the case.
Meanwhile, the investigation progresses: the assets of three project co-founders have already been frozen, and prosecutors are analyzing compromising videos. According to Pagina12, images would show the mother and sister of one of the co-founders emptying bank vaults the day after the presidential token promotion.
