The FIFA is stepping up its game in Web3. The global football governing body has just announced the creation of its own blockchain, built on Avalanche. A strong signal: FIFA’s crypto ambitions now extend beyond souvenir NFTs.
Baptized simply as “FIFA Blockchain”, this new infrastructure relies on Avalanche technology to deploy a custom L1 network. More than just a technical partnership, this is a strategic pivot: FIFA is abandoning Algorand, used in 2022 for its NFT collection related to the World Cup in Qatar, and now opting for an EVM-compatible solution, more flexible and widely adopted.
This announcement follows the major update “Avalanche9000”, designed to attract businesses looking to develop their own high-performing blockchains.
The FIFA’s decision is a testament to our ability to support applications on a global scale.

For now, FIFA only has an NFT collection and a digital marketplace. But this dedicated network hints at much broader uses: NFT tickets, fan tokens, gamified interactions between fans and players, tokenized media rights… Everything is still open.
Especially since despite the NFT bubble bursting, major institutions continue to build. FIFA is part of this trend: less hype, more infrastructure.
With this partnership, Avalanche confirms its positioning with enterprises. The creation of custom blockchains, formerly known as subnets, becomes a major commercial asset to attract giants like FIFA, looking for performance, scalability, and independence without starting from scratch.
