Ethereum’s Dencun upgrade scheduled for mid-January:

A launch scheduled for January 17th on Goerli
Ethereum developers are actively preparing for the deployment of Dencun. This upgrade will introduce a new process called ‘proto-danksharding,’ which aims to increase data storage capacity on Ethereum.
January 17th, 2024 has been set as the target date for deployment on the Goerli testnet, which has been used to test almost all previous Ethereum upgrades.
As you may have guessed, this represents a crucial step to test the features of Dencun, including reducing fees for layer 2 rollups and increasing data storage space.
However, it should be noted that this date can be changed at any time, as one of the Ethereum Foundation officials explains: ‘Obviously, if we find a major issue or something crazy before, we can always cancel it‘.
Other deployments planned on the Sepolia and Holesky networks
The delay of Dencun to 2024, originally planned for the end of 2023, reflects the technical challenges faced by the developers.
Furthermore, other deployments are planned on other test networks like Sepolia and Holesky for late January and early February.
These tests are crucial to ensure the stability and performance of the upgrade before its deployment on the main network, currently targeted for the end of February.
Dencun marks an important milestone in Ethereum’s evolution, following the Shapella upgrade that enabled withdrawals of staked ETH, and promises to bring significant improvements to the Ethereum ecosystem.
