Explosive Sales of Solana Saga on eBay
The Solana Saga phone, after months of slow sales, sold out on its official website, partly due to the growing interest in the free Bonk memecoin airdrop. Unopened devices were sold on eBay for amounts reaching $5,000, more than eight times their retail cost.
Impact of the Bonk Airdrop
Each new Solana Saga phone includes a free airdrop of 30 million Bonk tokens. The recent increase in the price of Bonk has made this airdrop more valuable than the phone itself, leading to a rush to buy and resell the phone on eBay. Around 20 devices were sold for over $2,000 each, surpassing the initial price of $599 on the Solana Mobile website.
Announcements of Airdrops and Benefits for Saga Owners
Buyers of these Solana Saga phones are betting on the future appreciation of Bonk, which has risen nearly 800% in the past 30 days. To justify the high resale price of $5,000, Bonk would need to see an additional 620% growth, reaching a valuation similar to that of Polkadot’s DOT.
However, the interest in the Solana Saga phone is not solely based on Bonk. Several Solana-based projects have announced airdrops and other financial incentives for phone users. For example, the pseudonymous founder of the DeFi protocol Solend confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) an upcoming airdrop for Saga phone owners. Similarly, memecoin project Samoyed Coin (SAMO) announced an airdrop for Saga holders, and GenesysGo revealed that users could mine their token Shadow (SHDW) through an app on the Saga phone. The Jupiter project also hints at the long-awaited airdrop of its JUP token for Saga owners.
